Map of the Swedish Empire by Martin23230 Map of the Swedish Empire by Martin23230
Another map based of an EUIII game, this time as, you guessed it, Sweden. I made it my mission to completely surround the Baltic, and this is the map of when I had finished.

Obviously the Swedish is probably not great, but given the PoD was in 1399 the language and names is probably quite distorted from what we know as Swedish.

Why would you have Lappland and Sápmi as two separate provinces, when both of the names means more or less the same, just in different languages, and from different periods of time.

If you mean like the Kalmar Union, I would agree. Iceland would probably want to be in that again.

indeed think about how powerful we would be

I can imagine. If the Scandinavians (Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Denmark and Finland) could recreate the Kalmar Union, we could have political power that might rival the European Union (although I wouldn't want to have it too centralized as it was last time).

perhaps, but the US would still probably be Goliath while we Scandinavians would be David. A superpower that rivals the US would have to be as big as the People's Republic of China or the USSR (although the Russian Federation is seemingly slowly going back to it's superpower status). The United States usually think that they're the police of the world and are therefore almost everywhere; in the European Union, China, Russian Federation, India, Brazil etc... but the five countries of Scandinavia have so much in common, such as similar economy, culture, shared history, political ideologies and language (even though Finland's linguistic roots are closer to Russian, they still retain some Swedish).
And I only wish that Iceland had a constitutional monarchy like Norway and Sweden. the republic isn't really working for us.

If only we in Iceland had our own monarchy. sure, there were three Danish kings that were mean to Icelanders and one of them even took his anger out on Icelanders. but in 1918, when Iceland became sovereign and shared it's king with Denmark, King Christian X actually respected Icelanders and came here on occasions, we want a king like that. If only we could get a king or queen. I wonder if Norway or Sweden would be willing to share a monarch.

"Norgeland" just sounds very badly. Also, the region is cut through by very tall mountain plateaus, making it a very artificial region. If I were you, I'd cut it in half vertically, and call the eastern one "Öst-Norge" and the western one "Vest-Norge". "Tröndeland" should really have remained "Tröndelag", since it derives from a long-standing hostoric term for the region which would've been well-known and accepted by Swedish politicians of the time. (-lag as a regional suffix stems from at least the 8th century AD)

Similarly, I would've divided Denmark into "Jylland" (the Jutland Peninsula) and "Själland & Fyn" (the islands of eastern Denmark, the region would be named after the two largest islands, Zealand and Funen).

Archangelsk should probably have been named Bjarmaland, or possibly having been Swedified as "Bjärmland".

That's just my personal view of a more practical, and a bit history-friendly division. Of course, it's all in good fun, and I think you did good. :) (Even though I'm a Norwegian and I'd hate to see those grubby Swedes hogging all my precious fjords). ;)

Can you also post that flag you have of the Swedish Empire (and send me the link when it's posted)? It's really cool, and I want to use it as a base for one of my future flag designs, if that's okay with you.

You should have taken all Swedish held colonies too. But otherwise nice!

Really should've created a Holmgard province, instead of cutting it up. And Arhangelsk should be called Bjarmaland. The province, not the city, which could be called...Ärkeängelborg? Bjarmaby? :D

While I wouldn't complain about the Swedish per se, I would rather want to argue against some of the choices in names, and for that matter the choice of provinces for the Empire. Norgeland, for example, I would divide into two: Akershus for the east, and Rogaland (or something) in the west. Sápmi I would probably name Finnmark, and Preussland could be just Preussen. But I digress, this is really rather good actually. I enjoyed it!

You mean Slesvig-Holsten.

Denmark under Swedish control... :( But at least there's Scandinavian rule in the Baltic, Karelia etc. :D

Nice. I once inherited Flanders as Aragon, that was an interesting game trying to link the two halves of the empire through France...

Hah nice. Within a couple of years of each other, I inherited a rump Burgundy, Milan, and Sardinia, and a full half of the Catholic monarchies have von Luxembourgs at their helm :P It's taking a little effort to keep it all under control, and an alliance led by Austria keeps giving me trouble, lol.

I had an almost identical empire as Denmark in EU2 not long ago. The temptation to surround the Baltic is impossible to resist when playing Denmark or Sweden. :XD:
