Map of Borealia by Martin23230 Map of Borealia by Martin23230
A map I made of an Alternate Canada.

The timeline wasn't exactly my primary concern, but the idea was that Canada, at least the eastern parts of it, has a similar revolution to the American one against the British Empire, much later.

This results in the Dominion of Canada splintering into several republics: the main Republic of Canada which took with it most of New England, the Maritime Union which is more friendly with the British but still don't want to be ruled by them, and the independent state of Quebec which wants nothing to do with anyone of the Anglo-countries. The rest of Canada remains British as the Dominion of Borealia, with its capital in Winnipeg.

Somehow Vancouver becomes independent, and the Dutch get New Amsterdam back; like I said the timeline wasn't first on my mind. The fact the British still hold on to Borealia is more from their imperial pride that any logic.

Mmh. Looks nice, but why do Columbia and Borealia still have the OTL border? And California, as well?

Actually it looks like the Columbian-Borealian border was lowered in favor of the British. I dont see why California would change

I'm still surprised that Russia kept Alaska.

I'd say Kingston, Ontario would be a more fitting capital for Canada rather than Ottawa because it was historically the capital before the war of 1812

Maybe the Dutch never left? If the northern and southern British colonies are divided by a Dutch one, then perhaps the southern colonies break away, to become Columbia, but New England fails to do so and is incorporated into Canada, which then has it's own revolution later...

(As a USian, the notion that Canada and Holland could take NY and New England from us riles me right up, I gotta say ) :)

I think that was more the way I was leaning. Rather ignoring butterflies I admit (PoD pre-1667 when the Dutch lost NA, but Vancouver was founded created in 1886 ??), but if Nieuw Nederland survived I could see the eventual *American Revolution being very interesting.

That's quite an interesting scenario actually, I might redo this map...

Dig the "New Arkangel City" as the capital of Russian Alaska!
